Victoria Gemmell grew up in Inverclyde and now resides in Renfrewshire. From a young age Victoria immersed herself in books and writing, filling many a school jotter with stories (complete with illustrations). One particular story, Ye Olde Castle, was her first attempt at a mystery, with a bit too much Point Horror influence.
Victoria Gemmell now loves to write edgy Young Adult mystery thrillers. Often her books are inspired by headlines in the news, but always turn into fictional stories when her imagination runs wild. Promise Me explores the way in which sensationalist news coverage, both in traditional and social media, can twist perceptions of individuals’ guilt, (in this case a teenage boy), before their case even reaches the courtroom.
Whilst studying an undergraduate degree in Communication and Mass Media, she developed a fascination with pop culture and Andy Warhol, which has influenced a lot of the ideas in Follow Me. After working at the Glasgow Film Theatre (where she got to watch free films after serving cake), and in media, she went on to complete a Post Graduate qualification in Careers Guidance and now works with teenagers on a daily basis. Victoria enjoys other creative pursuits such as art and photography. She also loves films, music, travelling and chocolate.
Victoria has had shorter works published in journals such as An Earthless Melting Pot, The Grind Journal, The Dillydoun Review and The Bohemyth Literary Journal.
